Agter-Witzenberg Blue Hand Safmarine Edu - Centre – Ceres
30 Nov 2012
Some funding generated at the Capespan Exports annual charity golf day initiated this partnership project funded by Safmarine and the Capespan Foundation.
Customised reefer containers have been fitted with suitable interior finishes to provide rooms that are to be used as a day-care and pre-school facility, located adjacent to the rural Agter-Witzenberg Primary School.
Design and planning of the facility were done by prize-winning South African architect, Tsai (www.tsaidesignstudio.com), and construction of the plinth was managed by a local export fruit producer, Willa Gibson, with the funding raised at the 2011 Capespan Exports charity golf day.
Cool Maintenance was responsible for the customisation, interior finishes and delivery of the three containers, as well as fitting the extensive roofing over the containers to prevent exposure to the area’s prevailing inclement weather.
Long-term support of the education programme provided by the centre will be in partnership with the local school, church community and producers.
